Full-spectrum, Broad-spectrum, and Isolate: What’s the difference?

CBD is a popular compound used in many products; it may ease the symptoms of common mental health issues and reduce pain and inflammation. Many people have improved the quality of their lives and achieved greater well-being by adding CBD products to their daily routine.

CBD May:

  • Help you focus
  • Make you feel more alert
  • Help with sleep issues
  • Reduce anxiety and depression symptoms

It may also treat painful conditions such as arthritis and may reduce pain and inflammation.

CBD is a fantastic ingredient extracted from hemp; it works by activating and balancing the endocannabinoid system (ECS) in your body. CBD products may help you feel healthier, more balanced, and greater feelings of vitality.

If you’re considering using CBD, you may have seen products that are described as being full-spectrum, broad-spectrum, or isolate.

What exactly does this mean?

Let’s look at the differences between these three types of CBD:

CBD Products

As mentioned above, there are three types of CBD products: full-spectrum, broad-spectrum, and Isolate. All have slightly different CBD percentages and depending on the color, smell, and potency needed, some may be preferred over others for specific products. The type of CBD is determined by how its extracted from the hemp plant.

Full-Spectrum CBD

Full-spectrum CBD is an extract of the hemp plant. It contains all the naturally occurring compounds found in the plant, including terpenes, flavonoids, and cannabinoids. These compounds are extracted from the plant and used to create an essential oil, which is then used in CBD products.

This oil results from a secondary CO2 extraction method that removes most of the THC found in cannabis, leaving only 0.3%, which is under the legal limit. The concentration of CBD is usually around 80%. Full-spectrum CBD oil is ideal for oils, edibles, and skincare as it creates an entourage effect, meaning that by combining cannabis compounds, it creates a stronger impact than a single compound would on its own.

Broad-Spectrum CBD

After going through an additional CO2 extraction method, the product becomes completely THC-free. CBD concentration in broad-spectrum oil is high (around 85%), while other compounds and terpenes are very minimal.

CBD Isolate

CBD isolate is produced with a different extraction process than the rest. The extracted oil goes through a winterization process that removes any waxes, compounds, and terpenes. The finished product comes out in powder form and is usually around 99.8% CBD, making CBD isolate completely THC-free with no remaining compounds or terpenes found. CBD Isolate is ideal for gum, mints, gummies, and pet products.
